April 2025

17 April 2025 - Two more babies arrived this day. This makes eight babies in the goat yard and one bottle baby (Achilles) in the house.  The mother of these two is a yearling female born by Jasmine, one of our four original herd.

Our first litter is nine weeks old and ready to find their permanent homes.  Three of the seven are on the way to new owners. We're hopeful the remaining four will find their way soon!

Big Boy arrived from the County Animal Shelter about six months ago accompanied by Calico, who looks exactly how she is named. Big Boy was supposed to be a "feral" cat and acted like one.  He was doing a great job keeping the rats and mice at bay and hid from us when we went into the barn.  However, after a few months, he has shown us his real personality. His is a very gentle giant with a soft, tiny purr and meow voice. He is friendly to Belle, the other cats, Xena and Clementine, the chickens and goats. He loves to hang out on the front porch and prefers pillows.

Belle is our 4-year old rescue, the first "local" who was abandoned a few miles away, rescued by a neighbor, and found us through social media. She tolerated the attention of the cats and has been pals with Achilles, who is taking watch-goat lessons.

Achilles was rejected by his mommy goat because he was a day late and had problems with his tiny front feet when born. He became a bottle baby on Day One and is right at home, at home.

Looking a little worse for wear, once we saw that Achilles was not getting anything to eat, we called our wonderful goat expert who rushed over to give us her opinion and advice.  She took the little guy home to help him get through the first night.  We were not sure he would survive.

Magnolia gave birth to two black and white babies on 29 March.  Everything seemed normal until the next day, when Achilles arrived. While bring out grain, the little guy appeared, and was not getting any milk from Magnolia. She pushed him away.
